We need a new approach to tax
READING the latest intended Budget for the next year leads me to remark, here we go again, the same mentality shown as year after year. The same format taxing fuel, cigarettes, alcohol, TRP, all these affect everyday working persons and pensioners.
In these times of serious inflation etc, we have to question the States’ same ideas they continually introduce. There are many other tax ideas they should be looking at, but again it’s the working class which are suffering. Take a look on our roads, there has never been so many expensive cars driving around – does that not indicate to us how well off most of the island is, a prime target to tax those, on the expensive cars etc, as one example.
Look at the properties now being developed around the island which also gives us an indication of wealth now in our island, so a real property tax should be introduced for developments such as this. What about reintroducing the corporation tax, talking to other islands such as ours. Tax those who are purchasing properties to invest – this is not helping the first-time buyer.
There is talk of GST, but if this does happen, this will have to apply to all these types of luxurious goods etc.
This proves how bad our finances have got from previous poor governments. We need a new approach in our tax system, looking for new ideas which is a lot fairer to all.
We have a problem with our income tax system so far behind, so how much finance is in there left to claim which we badly need? Unfortunately our island indicates it’s on the same level as a Tory government status and look where that is going – so much unrest.
