What a sorry day for the electorate
WHAT a sorry day for the electorate of Guernsey, indeed, a sorry day for Guernsey as a whole, to witness the resignation of Deputy Heidi Soulsby [from Policy & Resources committee], together with Deputy Peter Roffey, one of our best politicians.
I had hoped to see them firmly ensconced as joint chief minister at the next election. They’d complement each other beautifully, both have such high ideals, hard work, solid ethics (non-judgemental and the ability to listen to other points of view), compassion for people, and no ‘diva’ tendencies, we have enough of those, both male and female in the House already!
Alas, it’s a life-long ‘truism’, that it’s always ‘the wrong ones to leave’.
To the teenager in their first job, bullied by some arrogant ‘jobsworth’, to the ‘cliques’ who make another’s life a misery because they happen to be ‘cleverer’ or ‘prettier’, to the ignored and isolated by gender or higher intellect, the victims find it insufferable, and intolerable.
So the inevitable happens, they, the innocent party just go.
