States has lost control of our housing situation
DISAPPOINTING again to read the latest debacle of building homes on a green field site called Briarwood in St Martin’s by the school car park.
They say that the GP11 policy is working, but in that policy it clearly states that any development concerning more than 20 homes should have a percentage for affordable housing.
When is our States going to grasp the situation that it is first-time buyers that need homes and the GP11 plan should only allow developments which would only contain a very large percentage for first-time buyers or tax the developers for not complying?
Our States has let the island down on this issue, it’s no wonder the young people are leaving the island in droves as there is nowhere to live.
The States wants to introduce more taxation to produce more revenue to support our care system, but how does that work when we are losing so many of our future working people because they can’t afford to live here? It’s a vicious circle.
The future is looking weak for all, as those who wish to buy will be looking at million-pound houses, these properties being allowed to be built now are for those who are well off to afford them.
This proves that our present States and the ones before have lost control of our housing situation.
We seem to be no better off than those people living in places like China, Russia, etc on having no say.
Education is in a mess as the latest news comes out with problems on the new build for post-16 students.
Those deputies who voted for change to the old system should feel ashamed – it was a system we had working successfully for years and it is now broken.
This lovely island home of ours is in danger of falling apart due to poor governance, as our politicians do not care anymore.
