Churlish to try banning the Guernsey Rally

OH DEAR. It seems that nimbyism is alive and well in Guernsey.

‘Concerned’ people seem to be aligning themselves against a sporting event that only happens once a year, partly on the perceived anti-social element and also the perceived environmental effects.

I am referring to the Guernsey Rally.

I am not connected to this event in any way other than being a follower of motor (and other) sports from my armchair, but it seems churlish to try banning an event like this.

We live on a small island and we need to have a certain amount of give and take if we are to co-exist.

I don’t sail, play golf or ride a horse, but I’m not going to stop others having their enjoyment despite the huge areas of land given over to golf courses or grazing, or the money spent on providing moorings and facilities.

Didn’t I read somewhere that horses produce large amounts of greenhouse gas? It could be argued that all that grazing and golfing land be used to grow crops, but as I said – give and take.
