Speed cameras a waste of money

NOT that long ago the States was looking to find a way to fill the black hole. Front page Guernsey Press 28 February – speed cameras on their way? It’s unnecessary spending. How much is this going to cost? Everyone will know where the cameras are unless they’re going to be mobile, which will add to the expense of having them paying someone to move them around and with social media, it will soon be around the island where they are so it’s a complete waste of money.

Another way to raise money would be to tax the electric vehicles now using the roads free of charge. They weigh more than a petrol or diesel of the same model. All fuel should have the same duty – no red diesel etc., unless for commercial fishermen, farmers and heating. You’ve only got to look in harbours at the expensive fuel-guzzling boats. Look at how much income that could bring if taxed the same as road fuel – a boat is a luxury.

Stop picking on the lower paid and pensioners and tax those that can afford it.
