Group can offer support for those affected by MS
IN RESPONSE to your article on living with MS published on 9 March 2023, as the group co-ordinator of the MS Society Guernsey Group I was upset to read that the person interviewed has found the support on offer in the local area unhelpful.
We want everyone in Guernsey to know that we are here to support anyone affected by multiple sclerosis including family, friends and carers.
We are aware of the difficulties experienced during the period of the global pandemic when communities suffered isolation. However, coming out of the pandemic during the last year, our MS Guernsey Group has wasted no time in expanding the number of professional therapists to treat MS patients. Additionally, Move Smart – weekly specialist exercise classes – are held at Beau Sejour.
All of those services are provided to MS clients through referral by the MS specialist nurse.
A monthly social event, coffee afternoon, is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Our MS Guernsey Group is able to fund all of these services through generous fundraising efforts carried out by our volunteers, third parties, including donations from the general public.
The MS specialist nurse works closely with Dr Basil Ridha, consultant neurologist, and who at regular intervals during the year spends a week at a time in Guernsey to treat and care for local MS patients.
Our MS Guernsey Group and MS specialist nurse aim to improve assistance and support to the local MS community.
