I AM both saddened and disappointed to read that planning permission has been granted to build eight houses on a St Martin’s field, despite dozens of objections, and that a bid to ban the weed-killer glyphosate failed in the States.

I long for the day that we have the courage to be leaders on Guernsey in showing the rest of the world that there is another way to be that doesn’t continuously compromise nature and our health and wellbeing at the expense of economic concerns and profit.

Open green space and clean fresh air should be non-negotiable, certainly if we are considering future generations and the longer term cost both to their longevity and quality of life.
