Imminent closure of bring banks does little for recycling enthusiasts
THE imminent closure of bring banks by the States’ Trading Supervisory Board may have saddened, perhaps annoyed many. It has me – living alone in small accommodation with little in the way of storage space, they were a welcome drop-off public facility, used on a regular basis, a clean and convenient way of house management. There were always people dropping off in the same way that I was, and the containers, although rusting and often messy, looked regularly full. I guess the same might be said for those in bed-sits and shared accommodations, and when there is an unusual amount of packaging to be disposed of occasionally. Might we anticipate a further higher rate for road-side recycling, since there will be no choice, fly-tipping around the island, increase of mixed black-bag contents, and further thoughts about how our efforts are not being rewarded, and how, as an island, we actually have restrictive practices regarding waste disposal. Paid ‘green waste’ next? This move does very little for recycling-conscious locals. Or trust that the decision-makers have the community at heart.
