Smarten up our Town or risk losing visitors

BEFORE the Island Games concerns were raised in the Guernsey Press a St Peter Port constable was complaining about the state of the Town and I quite agree with her. Just the other day at the bus station there were several visitors from a cruise liner waiting to board a bus. Looking around the station it is a disgrace as this is one of the first areas the visitor sees.

All the shelters need painting – also the seats. There is a shabby-looking hexagonal wooden structure that needs removing – it is a complete eyesore. Also the building which sells newspapers needs repainting, as this belongs to the States Properties Department. This building is very rarely open, due, I think, to staff problems for the guy who runs it.

Jersey are about to spend millions on redeveloping its harbours, so unless we smarten up our Town, we could have fewer cruise liners in the future.
