We urge ESC to bring deputy back into fold

TO RUN TOMORROW - 11 AUGUST

An open letter to the Committee for Education, Sport & Culture.

As States members we are alarmed at the apparent exclusion of a member of your committee from discussions concerning the future of post-11 education in Guernsey. In particular the apparent confirmation by yourselves that this exclusion has been implemented simply because of policy differences over this aspect of your mandate.

The States Assembly elects all voting committee members, and may have a range of reasons for choosing a particular ‘chemistry’ around any given committee table. Rarely is the object to ensure that there is no dissent within committee meetings. Rather it is healthy for a range of views to be heard during policy discussions within committees.

It is therefore disappointing to learn that the mix of opinions chosen by the States to make up ESC has seemingly been unilaterally altered by the committee itself when it comes to one of the most important projects on your agenda.

With this in mind we urge you to end the exclusion of Deputy Cameron from discussions on the future secondary stchool model.
