Deputies seem hell-bent on making life tougher
LIVE now, pay later. I like this idea. Deputy Peter Roffey is proposing that TRP payments are deferred for homeowners, over the age of 70, until they can be recovered from their estate, on death.
As a bill-paying, pill-popping pensioner, to have a big bill deferred will give me loads of disposable income in my twilight years.
I could go on holiday, go on a cruise, eat out in fancy restaurants, throw parties for my friends. Yippee. Bring it on.
Seriously, many elderly pensioners own their own home and are faced with a continuous stream of bills as a result.
You deputies seem to be hell-bent on making life even more tough for them by introducing GST.
Deputy Jonathan Le Tocq wrote in this newspaper recently with regard to GST, ‘It’s virtually unavoidable, it doesn’t matter where your money comes from or how you arrange your financial affairs, if you buy something you’ll pay it’.
Take note, States deputies, that statement just about sums up the unfairness of GST.
Get your own house in order before trying to impose bigger bills and more taxes on the people of Guernsey.
GST will change our way of life and have a serious impact on vulnerable members of our society.
Say no to GST.
I shall wear my red ribbon with pride and hope that as many people as possible do the same.
