Jerbourg residents ready to be all but cut off by road closure next week
As a newcomer to Guernsey this year, I have been astonished by the forbearance people have demonstrated with all the road closures. The disruption has been immense, and the personal difficulties caused must have been huge.
Today we received a one-page notice from a company called Geomarine saying the only road to Jerbourg was going to be closed from 9-12.30 and 1.30-4pm every workday for two weeks from 8 January. No buses; no vehicular access for the many people on the wrong side of the closure since there are no alternative routes. This will cause some inconvenience, the letter said.
Some? How about my wife and her 10am doctor’s appointment on 15 January. Leave home at 8.45, sit at the surgery for an hour, see the doctor and sit for another two hours? Ridiculous.
How about food shopping? Head out at 8am on a cold January morning and rush to get back before nine, or try to force things into an hour at lunchtime? What about kids finishing school? How do you collect them?
These people have no idea of the issues they cause or, if they do, they do not care.
