Deputies need a degree of EQ to complement their IQ to be effective
THE idea of reforming the way we vote for deputies by voting for splitting the group of hopefuls for deputies (which if it goes ahead has to be a referendum) will not change the way are governed now.
Why? Because those who top the poll with 8,000 to 11,000-plus would always be elected and in all probability in charge on the top table.
Do we, the voters, want to risk them leading for six years?
The above idea favours said deputies, not the public at large.
We have had years of a lack of leadership – and it has to stop. Bear this in mind when you vote next. IQ is not enough – we need EQ as well (as demonstrated by the likes of Press columnists Horace Camp and Richard Digard).
I noticed that Deputy Peter Ferbrache was one of those behind the idea for IWV.
Good he got it started but required Deputy Carl Meerveld to do most, if not all, the hard work to take IWV past the post (I was assisting, with others, with the leaflets – that’s how I know).
Deputy Meerveld funded the GST march.
He put forward the wind farm idea for Guernsey and got sacked.
Deputy Meerveld gets things done – what more do you need from your deputy?
