Weed-ridden St Peter Port roads ‘unkempt’
I WOULD like to comment on the parlous state of the roads and pavements in Canton One of the parish of St Peter Port. There are weeds along the borders of most of the roads and pavements which give the parish an unkempt, uncared-for aspect. I believe the scruffy state of the weed-ridden thoroughfares encourages all sorts of negative and antisocial behaviour, such as disgusting fly-tipping and hideous graffiti, to name but two prominent examples.
Additionally, if allowed to continue, trees will start to take root and demolish walls, road edges and pavements as is already evident, costing the States, and by default the taxpayer, to rectify the situation. I have snapped off a number of buddleia bushes (for example,) which if allowed to root and flourish would destroy the edges of roads, walls and pavements.
I have seen a gradual decline in terms of the weediness in my two brief years as a St Peter Port douzenier. Please could the States do something about it as soon as possible?
