Who decided to install a crematorium that can’t accept cardboard coffins?
I HAVE just learned that following the upgrade at the Foulon Crematorium it is no longer permitted to use cardboard coffins. I am shocked. We are constantly being told to ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ and yet for our final farewell we are compelled to use a wooden coffin while cardboard coffins, as well as being environmentally friendly, are substantially cheaper than wooden ones and can ease the burden of costly funerals.
I have been given all the reasons that a cardboard coffin cannot be used for cremation but the rest of the world can use them for cremation, so once again the States of Guernsey have spent our taxes on a facility not fit for purpose.
Who decided to install a crematorium unsuited to cardboard coffins, and why?
