States is the most business unfriendly we have ever seen

I NOW firmly believe that this current States Assembly is the most business unfriendly we have ever seen.

First we had someone stopped from drying logs in a small part of a greenhouse. Then we saw the States stopping parking outside one of our most popular chip shops. Then the only independent CBT instructor was shut down and now a HGV instructor has been forced to stop as her vehicle did not have ABS brakes. As someone who drove trucks with no power steering or servo assisted brakes and with a non synchromesh gearbox I dread to think how a truck driver of today would cope.

Then the coup de grace was the proposal to put up the minimum wage to £12 per hour. We used to employ 15-year-old Saturday staff but as soon as they get to 16 they start quoting an inflated minimum wage at you.

Now, while I have no wish to employ slave labour, many youngsters make mistakes even after training which can sometimes cost a lot of money to rectify. The outcome is we no longer employ 15-year-olds, so well done States of Guernsey, another own goal.
