An alternative argument is that Israel is fighting a proxy war on America’s behalf
MARK WINDSOR makes a good argument about how the citizens of this Bailiwick are subject to the consequences of the American presidential election. However, I’m not sure he is right when he suggests that America’s shocking complicity in the Gaza genocide is caused by the power of the Jewish Lobby.
An alternative argument is that Israel, like many of America’s other close allies, is fighting a proxy war on America’s behalf. America’s policy of using Israel to control the Middle East has been going on since well before AIPAC and the other Jewish lobby groups became so ferocious.
The USA has genocide in its DNA. From the time of the Founding Fathers to the US Cavalry, America’s indigenous population was all but annihilated, (reduced from four million to 350,000 people) and its spacious lands repopulated by settlers.
It doesn’t seem to make a lot of difference whether the Democrats or Republicans are in control when it comes to American hegemony. Amongst the Democrats, Roosevelt created the A-Bomb; Truman dropped two A-bombs on the civilian population of Japan; Kennedy got the Vietnam War going; Johnson carpet bombed the civilian population of Vietnam, and then helped Israel become a nuclear power. The Republicans had Henry Kissinger to organise civil wars in just about any third-world country that came to his attention.
As Mark Windsor describes things, this Bailiwick gives unequivocal support to the UK, which in turn gives unequivocal support to the USA.
However, all that we as individuals are left to do is mumble that we don’t like our side (the good guys) to be complicit in genocide. Maybe it would help if many more of us would join the mumble – and mumble a bit louder.
