Are we being misled over the future of Leale’s Yard?
ARE we being duped by an ever-voluble E&I committee, even to the extent that they even detailed a change of road/traffic plans in the area of Leale’s Yard/Bridge? The president speaks and writes at length to us, the gullible electorate, but actually says very little. After four tortuous years of spiel from E&I, Mr Paul Nobes pops up (GEP 2 December) and tells us that Leale’s yard is a ‘no go’ and probably will never be built on and he should know, being a tradesman/builder. Four years of E&I salaries, plus civil servants etc. Hundreds of thousands of pounds, wasted.
Are we being duped by a unilateral decision by the Economic Development Committee when its president – directed by others, no doubt – signed the ferry agreement without discussion with Guernsey stakeholders, and despite the worries of our sister island? We all know what the up-shot will be. More pain for the taxpayer. We’ll soon be like the French islanders of Martinique, respectable working people, rioting in the streets because they can’t afford to feed their children.
Are we being duped by a committee under the aegis of E&I making us think they are serving our island well, by giving carte-blanche to a club who are seemingly ignorant of the damage they would cause to what most Guernsey people hold dear – the environment? Why don’t they get a few motorcyclists to join the fray? The mutation of our iconic highways and byways, flora and fauna, could be achieved in double-quick time.
Are we being duped that E&I, in the final death throes of that committee, now want a magic property tsar to bail them out? What does the poor benighted taxpayer have to pay for one of these? Thanks for nothing.
