Use Longue Hougue for inert waste and Les Vardes for water storage
AROUND April 2024 – I do not keep a diary – a letter was printed in the Press concerning Les Vardes Quarry future use.
I visited my local deputy, Andrew Taylor, with some brief notes – written on a used envelope – suggesting an exchange of Les Vardes with Longue Hougue Quarry i.e. Longue Hougue for inert waste and Les Vardes for water storage.
He told me that he was not involved with this project but would pass the notes on to the committee dealing with the matter.
I have seen no reference to this idea in Saturday 4 January Press report on Les Vardes benefits.
Land reclaimed at Longue Hougue would be more useful, the land surrounding the quarry would be stabilised, the pollution risk for stored water would be less at Les Vardes.
It should be possible to get Longue Hougue ready to take inert waste in a short time. If Longue Hougue is to be retained for water storage it may finish up under the sea due to global warming.
Could our planning department also look into buildings which will last longer and create less inert waste for future disposal?
