Visitor numbers a concern
THE 2024 Guernsey travel and visitor annual report revealed visitor numbers had dropped by more than 45,000 over the 12-month period.
Tourism Management Board chairwoman, Hannah Beacom, highlighted that the number of visitors who stayed for one night was one positive part of this report.
I would say they may take a ride on a bus but hoteliers will not agree with her enthusiasm.
However, Ms Beacom has reported that this 2% increase is estimated to have resulted in these holidaymakers bringing an additional £2m.-£3m. into the local economy.
I await the next instalment when Hannah Beacom reports on how her committee are dealing with this problem.
Richard Digard wrote the following on his page in the Guernsey Press:
‘Airport car park fees have increased as people wait for flights that never arrive, or take off, and fully one quarter of passengers say, getting here is absolutely the worst part of coming to the island. When you factor in the unknown millions Aurigny has lost, chartering in replacement wet leases, to prop up its own knackered fleet’. (I wish I had said that).
I leave you with a thought for today:
Improve aircraft maintenance.
Lengthen the runway.
