Article was nothing less than a eulogy to President Trump

I AM writing to express my distaste of the decision of the Guernsey Press to publish the recent article by Horace Camp which was nothing less than a eulogy to Donald Trump. Let us be clear, Trump is calling Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, a dictator and yet it was Trump’s new friend Putin, whose armies invaded Ukraine three years ago in an attempt to subjugate the country. Additionally many Ukrainian and Russian soldiers have also died needlessly.

If supporting Putin in his desire to extend Russia’s power, not only over Ukraine but also over other Eastern European countries and possibly even further is not bad enough, let us consider Trump the man. He is a convicted felon, he is a chauvinist, a bully and a racist, moreover he has completely disregarded the values of the Founding Fathers of America whose values were rooted in honesty, equality and integrity.

I am so very disappointed that, in an island that suffered the consequences of occupation and learnt at first-hand what can happen when we appease bullies and let might win over right, that our local paper should be publishing an article which is cheering Trump on. It is especially incongruous when we are preparing to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the overturn of the power of Hitler, another ambitious, self-seeking, prejudiced leader, who ultimately wreaked havoc in Europe until he was stopped. Trump went on record of saying that the world is on the edge of World War Three.

This statement may simply be another element of Trump’s bully-boy politics, but if he is right, his actions are undoubtedly pushing the world in that direction.
