HEATHER WATSON has crashed out of the Open GDF SUEZ Nantes Atlantique after a straight sets quarter-final defeat to Iryna Bremond.

The 19-year-old Sarnian needed to win the ITF $50,000 hard court tournament to consolidate her ranking points, but lost out 6-2, 6-4 to the Frenchwoman ranked 12 places below her at world number 101.

In the first meeting between the two players, Bremond needed 92 minutes to secure the victory against second seed Watson, who had her serve broken five times in the match and is likely to lose ground in the WTA rankings.
