ANDY WHALLEY'S belief that Guernsey can repeat their 2009 EH Trophy success this season has taken another impressive stride forward.

The Greens cruised through to the last 16 with a 3-0 win over Purley Walcountians at Footes Lane on Saturday evening and their player-coach expressed his delight with the foundations his side is laying for a successful run in the competition.

'I'm really pleased with the performance,' he said after two goals from Adam Kitching and one from captain Matt Watson saw Guernsey through to round four.

'We have put in a great deal of effort over the last three or four weeks defensively and this is the second round in a row that we have come up against a very disciplined and good unit and we have not conceded a goal.

'It makes us a very difficult team to beat.'
