'Here we go...' for an extended gold generation

ATHLETICS is to appoint a full-time development officer at the hub of a new development plan which aims to capitalise on its successes of the past decade.

Since the Island Games of 2003, Guernsey has dominated track and field at the biennial festival, winning a remarkable 58 gold medals over five Games, including nine at this year's event in the Isle of Wight.

All the while, the island's endurance section has overwhelmed its Jersey counterparts year in, year out, and overall membership numbers have steadily increased.

But the club are determined to build on that success and, as they launched the development plan for the next two years, GIAAC has set itself new targets.
