In the under-20 foil, which should be the aspirational title for the mass of younger foilists, Michael Higgs continued his habit of pulling something out of the bag in competitions with a 14–9 win over the favourite Henry Wallis.
The sabre final was far closer, with James Firth eventually clinching a 15-14 win over Matt Hudson after Jonathan Spicer was forced to retire after breaking the thumb of his sword hand in an intense semi-final.
Ben Inderwick also impressed. His slow season ended well with a solid 15-11 victory over James Male in the final.
