IAN MERRIEN coped admirably with his handicap of a broken arm to win the Guernsey indoor men's singles title for a second time.

Merrien, who now plays Jersey champion John Lowery for the right to represent the Channel Islands in the British Isles Championships, overcame a sticky start to beat first-time finalist Ken Laine 21-10 at the Hougue du Pommier centre.

It took a while for Merrien to get into his groove and his opponent scored seven shots in four successive ends in the early proceedings, but he played down any suggestion that he was markedly handicapped by playing with his left arm in plaster, having broken it at the start of last week playing indoor eight-a-side football.

'It was fine. It's just a different routine before you bowl.'
