THE Royal Guernsey have won back the Prince Edward Cup by the narrowest possible margin in a thrilling match.

L'Ancresse won the first match of the twice-annual meeting for the trophy comfortably back in April, but the RGGC took their revenge in dramatic fashion on Boxing Day.

The last match before the end of the year saw RGGC captain Jim Gilligan (pictured) and his vice-captain, Keith Austin, just edge out their L'Ancresse counterparts Bob Ozanne and Tony Brassell on the last hole in what proved to be a vital rubber as the Royal emerged 16.5-15.5 winners.

Ozanne was graceful in his final speech, although he did mention the fact that the Royal pair had the better course knowledge, having visited three bunkers which were all marked as ground under repair, so giving them a free drop outside.
