However, the match finished on a sour note as the simmering tension you would expect in such a crucial fixture boiled over in the final moments and saw both Tom Ceillam and Sam Stevens shown red cards as well as Old Elthamians fullback Tom White for their roles in an ugly melee.
That was partly why Guernsey player-coach Jordan Reynolds was not in celebratory mood afterwards.
'It was always going to go that way,' he admitted.
