THE most powerful man in the International Island Games Association has urged Guernsey to bid to host the Games again sooner rather than later.

Jorgen Pettersson has been involved in the Games for more than 25 years and is now the chairman of the IIGA. He was in Guernsey this week as a guest at the Guernsey Sports Commission awards.

He played volleyball for his home island of Aland for a decade, before becoming a member of the IIGA executive committee, later vice-chairman, before taking over as chairman five years ago.

In a revealing interview, he explained that Guernsey, which last staged the Games back in 2003, is one of only a handful of islands with the infrastructure needed to host the event successfully.
