GUERNSEY warmed up for next month's big open show with a good 6-4 win over a Welsh Select at St Pierre Park on Friday night.
Nobody impressed more than top of the bill middleweight Tom Duff, who controlled his bout with Daniel Gregg from the first bell of the four by two-minute contest, and the many juniors on the card, most notably young Mason Smale and Jack Gilvear.
The latter is quite a prospect but as good as he boxed at light-welterweight, he was more than a touch fortunate to get the verdict in this one.
The taller, neat Lewis Howells seemed to have the measure of Gilvear throughout all three rounds, his composed and stylish movements allowing him to score well, particularly over the first two rounds.
