EMMA ATKINSON'S hockey side are through to the last eight of the EH Investec Vase after a tough 3-1 win over Worthing at St Andrew's School for Boys, Worthing.

The Spearpoint-backed Sarnians had faced a long wait since their last Investec Vase outing to Croydon in late November, but they began the game in determined mood and at a high tempo. They immediately took the game to Worthing, with crisp passing between Mix De Vial, Dannie Jones and Aisha Damarell leaving the Worthing defenders scrambling to organise themselves.

The Worthing goalkeeper seemed to want to play more of a sweeper role and raced off of her line on numerous occasions to thwart Guernsey attacks from Chloe Dawes and Bianca Symes.

However, the Guernsey girls quickly became aware of her tactic and scored their first goal after six minutes when Liz Dudin and Symes played the ball in from a long corner and after some fast and accurate passes back and forth, found themselves in the D for Dudin to slot the ball past the onrushing keeper.
