In her first year studying economics and management at Jesus College, the 20-year-old has been selected for Oxford's first XI for the famous annual 'blues match' clash against Cambridge.

Oxford are coached by former Great Britain international John Shaw and watching the match will be Izzy's father David, the Guernsey women's coach.

'Izzy has worked incredibly hard and has been playing well this season to force her way into the squad,' he said.

'There will be a couple of England internationals playing and I know Izzy is really looking forward to it.'

But there is a slight downside for the Wrays. The timing of the match means that Wray snr will not be in charge of Guernsey's EH Vase quarter-final away at Yateley on Sunday.

Having lost in the final last year, the Sarnians are looking to go one step better this season, with injured vice-captain Lizzie Stonebridge taking on the mantle of stand-in coach.

Guernsey will also be without centre-back Gemma Piercey, although Liz Dudin returns. But Wray is confident the team can win.

'Yateley will be very similar to the last game against Worthing, who were also unbeaten and top of their league. But the girls know that if they go out there and play their best hockey, they are good enough to go through.

'We have Jersey coming up as well in the inter-insular, so it is an important time and hopefully we can build up some momentum.'
