New president unable to see first win

THE Guernsey Juniors golfers gave their new president a winning start to his tenure at L'Ancresse on Saturday, but he was not there to see it.
Jeff Davies was off-island for the first Hampshire Sevens match of the season, so he enlisted the help of his predecessor Bill Le Huray to oversee the team in their preliminary round tie against L'Ancresse.
Le Huray is no stranger to Hampshire Sevens success with the GJGC, having led them to the CI final on more than one occasion, but during his presidency the players had a habit of putting him through the proverbial wringer.
As soon as he was 'merely' a caretaker, though, they eased through their opening match without dropping a rubber.
However, with five of them reaching at least the 17th hole, the final 6.5-0.5 result was perhaps slightly misleading, although nothing can be taken away from the fighting spirit shown by the youngsters.
