ANOTHER good day for Guernsey at the Bowls World Cup in Australia.

Ian Merrien chalked up two straight-sets wins over Macau's Johnny Ng and Singapore's Tee Chiak Chia, while wife Alison defeated Malaysia's Noor Zafirah Noor.

Bowls in is its infancy in Macau, but Ng is a promising players whose tactics are unpredictable, so Ian Merrien played a cagey game, drawing to the jack with his first two bowls, then covering with his third and fourth.

Merrien's tactic of taking the mat up the rink clearly foxed Ng and he powered to a comfortable 13-4, 11-3 straight-sets victory, then handed out the same treatment to Chiak, 13-4, 14-2.
