ALISON MERRIEN this morning stormed to her eighth world bowls title in 12 years.

Not even New Zealand's world No. 1 Jo Edwards could stop the Sarnian's relentless march to the World Cup women's singles title at the Warilla club in New South Wales as Merrien finished the competition with a perfect 100% winning record.

Defending champion Edwards, who had ended the Guernsey star's campaign in both previous World Cups but had lost to her in the round-robin earlier this week, succumbed 7-6, 9-5 to the player who last won this particular title in 2008.

In the five times she has entered this event, Merrien has collected an amazing two golds, one silver and two bronzes.
