FEW islanders have put Guernsey on the world map more than Alison Merrien, now eight times 'world' bowls champion of some sort or another.

Certainly the bowls members of Warilla in New South Wales, know exactly where Guernsey sits on the globe after her continuing brilliance at the World Cup event they stage indoors annually.

Twenty-four hours after her latest triumph, this time over the world No. 1, Jo Edwards from New Zealand, the Guernsey star was lapping it up at a club which have taken her and husband Ian to heart.

The victory clearly meant a great deal to an ecstatic Merrien, who was breathless as she said: 'I won - I finally beat Jo in the later stages of a world event.'
