THE Green Lions were not the only footballing heroes on parade on Saturday.

While Guernsey FC were demonstrating their squad depth by thrashing Staines Lammas 5-0 in their penultimate CCL Division One match at Footes Lane, Bels were defying the odds and a sustained St Paul's onslaught to win the Deloitte Jeremie Cup final.

Robbie Williams, pictured, scored the only goal of the game at the Corbet Field where referee Peter Davison's performance left the visitors enraged.

It was all a good deal less confrontational at Footes Lane where more than 1,100 watched the Combined Counties League Division One champions win again.

The Green Lions rested a number of first-choice names, but still ran out winners thanks to strikes from Matt Loaring, Alex Le Prevost, Glyn Dyer and a brace from Dom Heaume.

GFC assistant coach Colin Fallaize was pleased with his side's performance.

'We played some nice stuff out there on what wasn't the easiest pitch,' he said.

'If it had been a perfectly flat pitch, then I honestly don't believe that Staines would have got a kick in the whole game.

'We have seen that even when we take certain players out, it does not affect the shape of the team and we have three players for every position now.'

The Lions' final league game will be on 28 April against Spelthorne Sports, five days before the cup final against Colliers Wood United and nine before the Muratti.

Fallaize believes those incentives will spur the players on.

'With two huge matches coming up, who wouldn't want to be a part of the team against Spelthorne?

'That will be a celebratory afternoon when the league trophy is presented and we want to put on a really good performance.

'I certainly won't need to motivate the players at all. They will all be geeing themselves up.'
