ANN BOWDITCH claimed first place in yesterday's concluding Black Horse 25-mile Handicap Time Trial, but it was her protege, James McLaughlin, who won the overall classification in the Guernsey Velo Club's Four-Day Easter Cycle Race.

McLaughlin, pictured, clocked the fastest time in the final event with 53min. 24sec., which placed him fourth when handicaps were taken into account, enough for him to lead the classification by a comfortable 14-point margin from runner-up Neil Ridley.

Leading woman Bowditch, who covered yesterday's time trial in 1-02-05 having started with a 10min. 10sec. handicap, was sixth overall.

Aaron Bailey and Matt Osborn were second and third respectively in the closing event.

Under-14 rider Alex Parfit was the winner of the five-mile junior handicap time trial ahead of Katie Rowe and Joanna Stapley respectively.

The fastest times of the day were recorded by overall points classification winner Daniel Alderton, who clocked 11min. 49sec., and top girl Sophie Dorey, with 13-05.
