THE Channel Islands battled through the wind to secure a highly impressive victory over Hampshire at L'Ancresse yesterday morning.

With the teams level overnight following two wins apiece in Saturday's foursomes, the home side were comprehensive winners of the concluding singles session, taking six-and-a-half points from a possible eight off their illustrious opponents.

Each point was hard-earned, though, as you would expect against the quality of the visitors, with four of the singles rubbers going the full distance.

The first two matches out both reached the 18th as the CI's lead-off man, Jersey's Gavin O'Neill, gave his side just the start captain Dave Rowlinson was looking for by putting the first point on the board thanks to a 1 up win over Sam Robertshawe.
