GH SMIT was once again Guernsey's hero as he saw his side home against Sussex Academy at KGV on Sunday.
Having opened and scored a century in vain a day earlier on the same ground, this time he came in at number seven with Guernsey teetering at 132 for five, chasing 211 for victory.
At that point, 79 were still needed from 60 balls, but, alongside first Jeremy Frith and then Dave Hooper, he kept up with the required run rate and the latter won it with two off the final ball of the 50 overs.
Smit ended unbeaten on 31 off 28 balls, while Hooper was 14 not out from 10, which delighted their captain Stuart Le Prevost, who was back in the side after being rested for the weekend's first match.
