GUERNSEY'S boxers ended the Dinner Boxing season in fine form as they defeated a strong Home Counties team 5-4 at St Pierre Park.

After beating the Western Counties 9-2 last time out, the Sarnians are going through a purple patch, but this was much harder against a classy UK team, led by 18-year-old John Newell.

He defeated a spirited Tom Duff in the night's top-of-the-bill clash by a split decision, but by then, Guernsey had already done enough for the win, some damage again being done early on.

With Casey de la Mare injured and James Woolnough not fighting due to a late opponent withdrawal, the night was cut to nine bouts and the home side were soon 2-0 up.
