THE true traditions of the Siam Cup returned with a vengeance on Saturday.
A year on from the mismatch at St Peter, Jersey had to fight tooth and nail to retain the beautiful trophy at Footes Lane by a scoreline that did Guernsey an injustice for the way they played.
The visitors, who scored all their points in the first half, were deserved winners for the strength they showed in the pack and their outstanding defence throughout, but Jordan Reynolds had every right to feel proud of his troops as they marched from the pitch to a standing ovation from their fans after spending the majority of the second half camped inside the Jersey half.
'It was a very good performance,' said the Guernsey coach.
'In the second half we were outstanding and in the first 15-20 minutes our defence was amazing too.'
