There were also a number of records over the 46.5-mile race – Aaron Bailey riding a blinder to take the over-40 standard, with Paul Brehaut taking the over-45 mark in the same time of 2hr 0min. 35sec., but a lower place.
Not to be outdone, Gary Wallbridge set an over-60 record of 2-20-00.
However, the ride of the day was probably Ann Bowditch's breaking of the 1975 record of the late Beryl Burton (seven world titles in her time) by more than three minutes as she crossed the line with the lead pack in ninth overall in a race won by Mike Serafin.
