NEW signing Ollie Newey ultimately saved Cobo from a second straight defeat in Division One of the Lancaster Trustees Evening League at KGV.

Chasing Corinthians' testing 120 to win in 16 overs, Cobo, who had lost to Griffins first time out, had got themselves into a winning position with the target whittled down to just eight from the final over bowled by James Gale and island skipper Stuart Le Prevost well set on 40.

But when Matt Palmer straight drove the ball back at the stumps, Gale collected and a stranded Le Prevost was run out.

That brought Newey to the wicket and he shaped up to the penultimate ball of the match with five still required to win.
