THE only player to have beaten Aimee Ponte in Island Championship silver division competition stands between the champion and a successful defence of her title.

The 16-year-old secured her place in tomorrow's 36-hole final with a convincing victory over Veronica Bougourd yesterday evening at L'Ancresse and now faces Jan Chamberlain in a mouth-watering clash of the in-form two seeds.

The pair have shared the last four island titles equally between them, although Ponte has played in only the last three during which time her solitary defeat came to Chamberlain at the first extra hole of a memorable 2010 final at La Grande Mare.

She maintained her unbeaten record at L'Ancresse thanks to a flying start against Bougourd, which saw the teenager sitting pretty at four up through seven holes.
