Come-from-behind wins are the order of the day

COMEBACK victories marked the opening round of the Elliott Singles British Isles Mens Qualifier played at all three of the islands greens.

Playing at Delancey Park, Peter Whales beat Adrian Atkinson despite the latter being very much in control after 14 ends leading 14-8.

But four shots gained by Whales on the 20th put him ahead 18-17 and he went on to win 21-19 four ends later.

Andy Savident was locked in another battle for the second time in the week and was 16-9 up at 16, but he was beaten by fellow Northerner Paul Wakeham 21-19 in 24.
