GUERNSEY cyclists' versatility and willingness to cross into other areas of the sport was as important to Sarnian successes on inter-insular weekend in Jersey, as was natural talent.

Velo Club president Gary Wallbridge made such a point in assessing a brilliant two days for his club across the water.

'The versatility of our senior riders is very apparent with a number of the island's best MTB riders performing at the highest level on the road,' said Wallbridge.

'Having the ability to call on a number of the MTB team to strengthen an already strong road squad has enabled us to dominate Jersey in the inter-insular road race.'

It was the Velo Club's strongest and largest ever squad of riders for an inter-insular, ranging from U16 girls up to Grand Vets and with Jersey having little or no success in recent years against the Sarnians the Jersey Cycling Association broke from tradition on day one in an effort to push results their way.
