ALICE LOVERIDGE will get a taste of the London 2012 build-up after being earmarked as a future Olympian for Rio 2016.

The 17-year-old Sarnian table tennis star missed out on selection for next month's Games, but the British Olympic Association has chosen her for their Ambition Programme.

Loveridge is one of three table tennis players chosen, having been put forward after the programme's launch in December and is delighted at the news.

'I didn't know anything about it at all really. It will be great to see the village and also where the competition is taking place,' she said. 'After missing out on qualification, this is a bit of a consolation and it was totally unexpected.'
