THE world No. 20 had just too much for a battling Heather Watson yesterday in Birmingham.
The 20-year-old Sarnian (pictured) was the only British player to reach the third round of the Aegon Classic at a very windy Edgbaston Priory Club and she showed a lot of determination against fourth seed Roberta Vinci, fighting back from a set down to take it to a decider before eventually succumbing 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
'Roberta played very well, especially in that third set, which flew by, but I think I competed well and it was a close match,' Watson said.
'Unfortunately, when it counted in that third set, I did not play my best tennis.'
