THE junior golf champions of Guernsey and Jersey produced a Channel Islands final on Sunday that would have easily befitted the men's showpiece occasion.

Nowadays the best under-18s of both islands are constantly in contention for selection for the senior inter-insular sides with James Hamon and Steven Anderson proving exactly why at L'Ancresse at the weekend.

Of course, Hamon has already earned two inter-insular caps and still has another year in the junior ranks, while Anderson, son of the late Richard 'Tex' (one of Jersey's best golfers), is a chip off the old block.

But even though they went into their encounter with ever-increasing reputations, the match they produced was far beyond expectation.

Quite simply, it was a cracker.
